Langar Aid Delivers Essential Support in Monmouth After Storm Claudia Flooding

Khalsa Aid’s Langar Aid team supported residents in Monmouth after severe flooding caused by Storm Claudia. Essential supplies including dehumidifiers, blankets, cleaning products and hot food were delivered in coordination with Monmouth County Council.

When Storm Claudia brought severe flooding to Monmouth and a major incident was declared across the region, many families were left facing extensive damage to their homes. In response, Khalsa Aid’s Langar Aid team travelled to Wales on Saturday to provide practical support to residents beginning the difficult clean up and recovery process.

As part of a coordinated effort with Monmouth County Council, our team delivered essential supplies to help households dealing with severe damp, damaged belongings and unsafe living conditions following the floods.

Aid Delivered to Affected Residents

To help families stabilise their homes and begin the early stages of recovery, the Langar Aid team delivered:

–13 dehumidifiers to support the 700 residents affected by the floods and help households begin drying their homes

–Sleeping bags for residents experiencing damp or temporary living arrangements

–Cleaning supplies including bleach, antibacterial spray, wipes and sanitation products

–Blankets generously donated in bulk by long term Khalsa Aid supporter Davinder and his family

–Buckets and mops supplied by Marko in Hereford to support household clean ups

–Bottled water for immediate use

–200 samosas for staff and volunteers at Shire Hall Monmouth who have been working tirelessly to support residents

Staff and volunteers shared how much the dehumidifiers and cleaning products helped residents as they started drying and cleaning their homes.

Community Support at the Heart of Monmouth’s Flood Recovery

While in Monmouth, the Langar Aid team spent time with families, council staff and volunteers who have been working continuously since the flooding began. Even with the damage and disruption caused by Storm Claudia, there was a strong sense of solidarity across the community. Neighbours were helping with clean ups, local groups were bringing meals and supplies, and people were doing whatever they could to support those who needed it most.

Avtar Singh, Langar Aid Project Manager, said:

“It was amazing to hear about the community spirit and how everyone in Monmouth came together to support each other. The staff and volunteers were so appreciative of the support. And we were grateful that they got in contact with us which allowed us the opportunity to help. Everyone showed kindness whether by helping clean up or providing hot meals.”
